History - July 2001 - First Logo, Zootie & Boat Racks

  • 12 Jul 2001

In July 2001, the Melbourne Argonauts Queer Rowing Club was granted affiliation with Rowing Victoria. Additionally, the first club logo was created in addition to the selection of our colours and a uniform. Maxi got to work building some boat slings to compliment the space we had acquired at the Powerhouse / Lord Somers Pavilion at the south end of Albert Park Lake.

Sandy and Maxi have been looking into the uniform. To get affiliated, we had to provide a description of this to Rowing Victoria, so we put our heads together and came up with a black-purple-white colour scheme. They got a zootie made up (see photo). Sandy agreed to model the zootie, but I think he’s lost some weight. He looks a lot like a coat hanger to me.

Having finally established the club name, some work has been done to formulate some things like the club colours and image. christopher [sic] has done a magnificent job developing the club logo. It’s based on a design inspired by the ram’s horns, from the Greek mythology that inspired our name. It also represents the water puddle left by the oars.
